Chalvington for Charity

Our charitable efforts not only allow us to make a positive contribution to the community, they allow us the opportunity to work together outside of the office environment, which has proven to be a great source of team building and strengthening of bonds between team members.

Our charity of the year for 2013 is Horam-based Children’s Respite Trust; a registered charity that supports children with disabilities and serious illnesses and their families by helping them to get a break. The respite stays, or short breaks as some people call them, are provided in privately run centres, which are carefully vetted and selected together with the families.

Caring for a child with extraordinary medical and care requirements is a part of everyday life for the families of those affected, but the opportunity for a night’s sleep, to do some shopping or to spend hard-to find one-to-one time with siblings is not only rare but very precious.

Asked how they felt about being selected as Charity of The Year 2013, Children’s Respite Chief Executive Gavin Fisher said ‘We are so delighted that staff at the Chalvington Group have chosen the Children’s Respite Trust. I’m sure it is going to be hard work, but also a fun year and we’re really looking forward to working alongside the Chalvington team. If they raise half as much as they achieved last year, it will make a big difference to our work for disabled children and their families throughout East Sussex’.

Since the official beginning of our charitable society in 2010 ‘Chalvington for Charity’ the Chalvington Group has been fortunate to work with some wonderful charities including Sport and Comic Relief, the Meningitis Trust (for whom a team of walkers completed the Three Peaks Challenge in May 2011) and Sussex Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus; who were presented with a cheque for £15,510.13 in January. Events for them included a team Sky Diving challenge, annual Quiz Night and fabulous black tie Grand Charity Dinner at Leeford Place in Battle.

This year the challenge is definitely on! With an impressive total from last year to try and beat we have a number of events already in the pipeline including our second annual Quiz Night, a Table Top Sale and Craft Fair, the London to Paris Bike Ride and of course the second annual Grand Charity Dinner. To find out more about what’s happening in 2013 and how you can join in the fun don’t forget to check out our calendar of events.

The progress of our events and the various escapades of our Charitable team can be kept up with via our Facebook and Twitter Pages, along with our well-established ‘Yummy Thursdays’ which raise funds for our chosen charity each week from the sale of delicious treats (check out the Yummy Gallery on our Facebook Page), local street collections and ‘Dress Down Fridays’ which of course speak for themselves. We hope you enjoy following us as much as we do taking part, and appreciate your taking the time to read this section of our website.
